Professor Frank Convery was founding director, and is now Chairman of the UCD Earth Institute in University College Dublin. This institute has been established to mobilise smart science and smart policy to address key resource and environmental challenges facing us in Ireland and globally.

He was formerly Chair of:

  • Comhar-Sustainable Development Council
  • Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland
  • An Taisce

He was also a Board Member of:

  • National Roads Authority
  • Science Committee of the European Environment Agency

He is active on a number of EU-wide investigations and bodies, President of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists.

His core idea is that markets will destroy environmental endowments unless they are mobilised to conserve them. This informs his teaching, research and writing on resource and environmental economics issues with particular reference to agriculture, forestry, energy, minerals, land use, urbanisation, environment and development in developing countries.
